Qaza namaz calculator

Counts from the figures you choose, with no age or menstruation estimate built in, tracks each prayer you make up, remembers your progress in your browser, and says plainly that it is a count and not a ruling.

In short

Qaza prayers are the prayers missed since the obligation began. This calculator counts days from the age you choose to a date you choose, takes off the days you enter, and multiplies by the prayers owed each day. It tracks what you have made up and estimates your finish date. It does not decide any ruling for you.

Your progress is remembered. Your figures are saved in this browser, so you can come back and update what you have made up. Add this tool to your phone or computer for one-tap access.

How to use it

  1. Enter your date of birth and the age at which you count the obligation as having begun, following your own scholar.
  2. Choose the date to count up to, and type the number of days to leave out, if any.
  3. Tick witr if you count it as a separate prayer each day.
  4. Enter how many of each prayer you have already made up, and how many extra you will make up each day.
  5. Read the count and the finish date, then copy the summary or download the sheet as an image. Your figures are remembered in this browser.

How it calculates

Days are counted from the date you reach the age you enter, up to the date you choose, not counting that last day. The days you type as left out are taken off. Each prayer is owed once for every day counted, and witr is added only if you tick it. Prayers you have made up are taken off each prayer, and the finish date is the remainder divided by your daily pace.

For example, counting from a 15th birthday over 10 days with 3 days left out gives 7 days counted. Five prayers are owed each day, so 35 prayers in all. If 4 Fajr prayers are already made up, 31 remain, and at 5 extra prayers a day they take 7 days. The age, days and pace are made up; yours are exactly what you enter.

Who should use it

  • Anyone who has missed prayers and wants a clear count to work through
  • People who follow a scholar’s guidance and need the arithmetic done
  • Anyone tracking progress on making prayers up over weeks or months

Who should not use this

  • Anyone looking for a ruling on when the obligation began or how to treat particular days; this tool decides none of that
  • Anyone who needs advice for a complicated situation, such as irregular cycles or illness; ask a qualified mufti
  • Anyone who wants the tool to work out the days to leave out; it only takes the number you type

Limitations

  • The age the obligation began, the days left out and whether witr is counted are all your own figures. The tool assumes none.
  • The result is a count, not a ruling or a fatwa.
  • Your figures are saved in this browser only. Clearing browser data removes them.
  • Nothing is uploaded or stored on a server. Clearing your browser data also removes the saved profile.

Common questions

Does it work out my menstruation days?
No. Working them out depends on rules and on your own history, so you enter the total number of days to leave out yourself, or with a scholar’s help.
What age should I enter?
The age at which you count the obligation as having begun. Different scholars and schools give different answers, so the tool leaves it to you.
Is my information uploaded?
No. Everything stays in your browser. It is saved on this device so you can update your progress, and the “forget saved details” button removes it.
