Estate settlement calculator

Does the part of an inheritance that comes before the heirs: funeral costs, debts and the one-third limit on a bequest, in order, and says plainly that it does not divide the remainder among heirs.

In short

Before an estate is divided among the heirs, funeral and burial costs and debts are paid and any bequest is limited to one third of what remains. This calculator does those steps in order and shows the amount left for the heirs. It does not calculate the heirs’ shares. Nothing is uploaded.

Private by design. Nothing you type is uploaded or saved. Add this tool to your phone or computer for one-tap access.

The deceased

The estate, in order of settlement

Everything the deceased left, valued in money.

The most that can be given is PKR 0.00, one third of the net estate.

This is not a faraid calculation. It stops at what is left for the heirs. How that is divided among them depends on who survives, and it is not worked out here. Ask a qualified mufti before distributing an estate.

The shares of the individual heirs are not calculated on this sheet. The amount left for the heirs, PKR 0.00, is the figure a mufti would divide among them. This sheet is not a fatwa and not a legal document.

How to use it

  1. Optionally enter the name of the deceased and the date of death for the sheet.
  2. Enter the gross estate, valued in money.
  3. Enter the funeral and burial costs, and the outstanding debts.
  4. Enter any bequest (wasiyyat). If it is above one third of the net estate, the calculator reduces it to the limit and says so.
  5. Read the amount left for the heirs, then copy the summary or download the sheet as an image.

How it calculates

Funeral and burial costs come out of the gross estate first, then debts, each only up to what the estate still holds. A bequest is limited to one third of what is left, and any larger figure is reduced to that limit. Sums are done in whole paisa. The remainder is shown as one figure; it is not divided among the heirs.

For example, an estate of 12,000,000 with 150,000 of funeral costs and 500,000 of debts leaves a net estate of 11,350,000. A bequest can be at most one third of that, which is 3,783,333.33. With no bequest, the whole 11,350,000 is left for the heirs. The figures are made up; yours come from what you type.

Who should use it

  • Families who want to see what is left to divide after the funeral, debts and a bequest
  • Anyone preparing figures to take to a mufti or an inheritance lawyer
  • Students learning the order in which an estate is settled

Who should not use this

  • Anyone who needs the heirs’ shares worked out; this tool stops before that step and does not calculate them
  • Anyone who needs a legal opinion or a court-ready document; this is not a fatwa and not a legal document
  • Estates with complications such as disputed debts, property abroad or a will that names heirs; ask a qualified mufti or lawyer

Limitations

  • The heirs’ shares are not calculated. Only the amount left for them is shown.
  • The one-third limit is applied to the net estate as entered. Whether a particular bequest is allowed is for a mufti to decide.
  • Values are taken as you type them. The tool does not value property or check debts.
  • Nothing is uploaded or stored on a server. Clearing your browser data also removes the saved profile.

Common questions

Does this calculate who gets what?
No. It stops at the amount left for the heirs. How that is divided depends on which relatives survive, and it needs a qualified mufti.
Why is the bequest reduced?
The calculator limits a bequest to one third of the net estate, so a larger figure is reduced to that limit and a note says so. Whether a particular bequest is allowed is for a mufti to decide.
Is the deceased’s information stored?
No. Nothing you type is uploaded or saved. Closing the page clears it.
