Hijri date converter

Shows the same date on Umm al-Qura, one day behind and the tabular civil calendar side by side, lets you match your own country’s announced date, and exports Islamic dates and Hijri reminders to your phone calendar.

In short

The Hijri calendar is lunar, so Islamic dates move about eleven days earlier each Gregorian year. This converter turns a Gregorian date into a Hijri date, or back, on Umm al-Qura or the tabular civil calendar. A local offset of up to two days lets you match your own moon-sighting announcement.

What do you need?

Calendar and local sighting

Today: unavailable on this basis

These are calculated dates. A local moon-sighting announcement can differ by a day, so check it for any month that matters to you.

Match my local date

Type today’s Hijri date as your country announced it, and the offset is set to fit.

Convert

Calculated dates, not announcements. Ramadan, Eid and Arafah depend on local moon-sighting decisions, so confirm them with your local scholars or the official announcement. Nothing here is a religious ruling.

Calculated dates, not announcements. Moon sighting can move any date by a day, so confirm with your local announcement. Not a religious ruling.

How to use it

  1. Choose a calendar basis: Umm al-Qura, which is read from your browser, or the tabular civil calendar.
  2. Set a local offset from −2 to +2 days if your country begins its months after moon sighting, or type today’s local Hijri date under “Match my local date”.
  3. On Convert, pick a direction and enter the date. Tick the box if it is already after sunset.
  4. Use Month calendar for a printable grid, Islamic dates for Ramadan, Eid and other dates as a calendar file, or My Hijri date for a yearly reminder.
  5. Read the result on the right, compare it with the other settings, then copy it or download an image.

How it calculates

The Gregorian date is shifted by your offset (−2 to +2 days) and looked up in the calendar you chose: Umm al-Qura, read from your browser’s date data, or the tabular civil calendar, computed in the page. Going from Hijri to Gregorian, the tool searches the few days around an arithmetic estimate until the converted date matches, and says so if the day does not exist in that month. Dates are supported from 1883 to 2173.

For example, 18 October 2026 is 7 Jumada al-Awwal 1448 AH on Umm al-Qura, the calendar Saudi Arabia uses, and 6 Jumada al-Awwal 1448 AH with a one-day-behind offset, which is how a country that waits for moon sighting may count it. Going the other way, 1 Ramadan 1448 AH is 8 February 2027 on Umm al-Qura, a day later where the month begins by local sighting. These are calculated dates, not announcements.

Who should use it

  • Anyone converting a Gregorian date to Hijri, or the other way round, for a document or a plan
  • People who want Ramadan, Eid and other Islamic dates in Google, Apple or Outlook calendar
  • Those tracking a Hijri birthday, anniversary or zakat due date that falls on a different Gregorian day each year

Who should not use this

  • Anyone deciding when to begin Ramadan, Eid or Hajj rites; that is for your local scholars and announcement, not a converter
  • Anyone needing prayer times or the Qibla direction, which this tool does not calculate
  • Anyone converting dates before 1883 or after 2173, which the tool declines instead of guessing

Limitations

  • The offset is a manual adjustment of up to two days, not a prediction of any announcement.
  • Umm al-Qura needs your browser’s date data; if it is missing, the tool says so and uses the tabular civil calendar.
  • Dates are converted at the calendar-day level. The sunset box is a simple one-day shift and does not need your location.
  • Religious dates depend on local moon-sighting decisions, so confirm them with your local announcement.
  • Nothing is uploaded or stored on a server. Clearing your browser data also removes the saved profile.

Common questions

What is today’s Hijri date?
The box at the top of the tool shows today’s Hijri date on your device using your chosen basis and offset. On 18 October 2026 it was 7 Jumada al-Awwal 1448 under Umm al-Qura and 6 Jumada al-Awwal 1448 with a one-day-behind offset.
What is the difference between Umm al-Qura and the tabular Islamic calendar?
Umm al-Qura is a calendar calculated from astronomical criteria and used for civil purposes in Saudi Arabia. The tabular civil calendar follows a fixed 30-year arithmetic pattern and does not look at the moon at all, so it can be a day away from Umm al-Qura or from an observed date.
Why does my country announce a different date from this converter?
Many countries begin a Hijri month after an official moon-sighting announcement, which can fall a day after the calculated date. Use the offset, or the “Match my local date” box, to line the converter up with your local announcement.
When does Ramadan 2027 start?
Under Umm al-Qura, 1 Ramadan 1448 AH falls on Monday, 8 February 2027, and Eid al-Fitr on 9 March 2027. Where the month begins a day later by local sighting, those dates move to 9 February and 10 March. Confirm with your local announcement.
How do I convert a Hijri date to Gregorian?
Switch the direction to Hijri → Gregorian, enter the day, month and year in AH, and the Gregorian date appears with the weekday. If the day does not exist in that month, the tool tells you the month has fewer days.
Does the Islamic day start at sunset?
Yes, in the Islamic reckoning a day runs from sunset to sunset. After Maghrib the Hijri date is already one day ahead of what a midnight-based converter shows. Tick “It is already after sunset” to apply that.
Can I get Eid and Ramadan dates in Google Calendar?
Yes. Download the .ics file from the Islamic dates tab and import it in Google Calendar under Settings, then Import and export. Each date is an all-day event, and an optional reminder is set for the day before.
