Gratuity calculator

Counts service in exact calendar years, applies the UAE 21-day and 30-day tiers and two-year cap, covers the UAE savings scheme and Qatar’s 21-day minimum, and shows every step so you can check the figure yourself.

In short

End-of-service gratuity is the lump sum an employer owes when a job ends. This calculator takes your basic salary and dates, counts your service, and applies the UAE rule of 21 days a year for five years and 30 after that, capped at two years’ pay, or the Qatar minimum of 21 days a year. It shows each step.

Estimate

Enter your basic monthly salary.

An estimate of the statutory minimum under Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021, Article 51, worked out from the figures entered. It is not a final settlement, legal advice or an official figure.

How to use it

  1. Choose the UAE or Qatar. In the UAE, choose standard gratuity or the savings scheme.
  2. Enter your basic monthly salary only. Leave out housing, transport and other allowances.
  3. Enter your first day of work and your last working day, and any days of unpaid leave.
  4. In Qatar, change the days per year only if your contract grants more than 21. Add unused leave days if you want them included.
  5. Read the breakdown, then copy the summary or download the settlement sheet as an image.

How it calculates

Service is counted in calendar years from your first day to your last working day, both included, less any unpaid leave. In the UAE the first five years earn 21 days of basic pay each and every year after that earns 30, with part-years counted pro rata and the total limited to two years of basic salary. In Qatar each year earns at least 21 days, with no limit. One day of pay is basic salary divided by 30.

For example, in the UAE a basic salary of AED 12,000 over 8 years is AED 400 a day. The first five years earn 21 × 400 × 5 = AED 42,000 and the next three earn 30 × 400 × 3 = AED 36,000, so the gratuity is AED 78,000, well under the two-year limit of AED 288,000. In Qatar, a basic salary of QAR 6,000 over 5 years and 7 months at 21 days a year is 21 × 200 × 5.58 = about QAR 23,450. The salaries and dates are made up; yours come from what you type.

Who should use it

  • Employees leaving a private-sector job in the UAE or Qatar who want to check their final pay
  • HR and payroll staff who need a quick check against the statutory minimum
  • Anyone comparing the traditional gratuity with the UAE savings scheme

Who should not use this

  • UAE nationals, whose end-of-service pension is paid through the pension authority and worked out differently
  • Domestic workers, government employees, and staff of financial free zones such as DIFC and ADGM, which have their own rules
  • Anyone with a contract that sets a more generous gratuity; this tool shows the legal minimum only
  • Anyone in a dispute over a dismissal or a final payment; take legal advice or contact the labour ministry

Limitations

  • It shows the statutory minimum for a full-time employee. A contract can promise more, and the tool does not know your contract.
  • It does not deduct loans, advances or other amounts an employer may lawfully take from the final payment.
  • It does not include notice pay, overtime, bonuses or other items in a final settlement, apart from the unused leave you enter.
  • The savings scheme figure is the employer’s contributions only. The fund’s investment returns cannot be predicted and are not included.
  • The rules were checked against published sources in October 2026. Laws change, so confirm a binding figure with your employer or the labour ministry.
  • Nothing is uploaded or stored on a server. Clearing your browser data also removes the saved profile.

Common questions

Is gratuity worked out on basic salary or total salary?
On basic salary only. Housing, transport, schooling, overtime, bonuses and commissions are left out in both the UAE and Qatar. Use the basic figure from your contract.
How is UAE gratuity calculated?
Under Article 51 of Federal Decree-Law 33 of 2021, you earn 21 days of basic pay for each of the first five years and 30 days for each year after that, with part-years paid pro rata. The total cannot be more than two years of basic salary. A day of pay is basic salary divided by 30.
Does resigning reduce my UAE gratuity?
Not under the current law. The old reduction for resignation was removed, so resigning and being terminated give the same gratuity once you have completed one year of service.
How is Qatar gratuity different?
Qatar’s Labour Law pays at least three weeks of basic wage for each year of service after the first full year, with no ceiling and no step up after five years. A contract can grant more. Gross misconduct under Article 61 can cost an employee the gratuity.
How long must I work to qualify?
One continuous year in both countries. Under one year no gratuity is due, and after that each part-year counts pro rata. Unpaid leave does not count as service.
What is the UAE savings scheme?
A voluntary alternative, introduced by Cabinet Resolution 96 of 2023, in which an employer pays 5.83% of basic salary a month into an approved investment fund for the first five years and 8.33% after that, instead of building up gratuity. You receive the contributions plus any returns when you leave.
When must the gratuity be paid?
In the UAE, within 14 days of the end of the contract, together with other dues. Qatar also expects the final settlement to be paid promptly. If it is late, contact the labour ministry.
