2027 Payroll Calendar: Working Days, Work Hours and Paydays

In short

2027 has 261 weekdays and 12 observed federal holidays, which leaves 249 working days, or 1,992 hours at 8 hours a day. A standard payroll year is 2,080 hours. Weekly pay has 52 periods (53 Fridays), biweekly 26 or 27 depending on the first payday, semi-monthly 24 and monthly 12.

How many days are there in 2027?

There are 365 days in 2027, because it is not a leap year. The year starts on a Friday (January 1) and ends on a Friday (December 31), so it has 52 full weeks plus one extra day. That extra day is why Friday appears 53 times. Of the 365 days, 261 are weekdays and 104 fall on a weekend.

How many working days are there in 2027?

There are 249 working days in 2027 if you count Monday to Friday and treat the federal holidays as days off. That is 261 weekdays minus 12 observed holidays. The Office of Personnel Management’s 2027 table lists 11 holidays, which would leave 250, but it also counts a twelfth day: New Year’s Day 2028 falls on a Saturday, so it is observed on Friday, December 31, 2027. That Friday is a day off for federal employees in calendar 2027.

Three ways to count 2027, and what each assumes

For comparison, 2028 is a leap year with 366 days, 260 weekdays and 10 observed holidays inside it (the New Year’s observance moved into 2027), which leaves 250 working days. So 2027 has 249 working days and 2028 has 250.

How many work hours are there in 2027?

It depends on the definition, and the three common ones are all correct for their purpose. Payroll uses a standard year of 2,080 hours (52 weeks × 40 hours). The weekdays of 2027 add up to 2,088 hours at 8 a day, which is 8 hours more than the standard year because 2027 has 261 weekdays rather than 260. And the federal calendar, with 249 working days, gives 1,992 hours.

How many pay periods are there in 2027?

Most employers have 52 weekly, 26 biweekly, 24 semi-monthly or 12 monthly pay periods in a year, but 2027 changes two of them. A weekly payroll that pays on Fridays has 53 paydays, and a biweekly payroll that pays on Fridays has 27 paydays if its first payday is January 1. The number of pay periods and the number of paydays in a calendar year can differ, so check which one a question is asking about.

The count of pay periods and the count of paydays differ when pay periods straddle year-end. A period that ends in early January 2028 is paid in 2028 even if most of its days are in 2027, so payroll teams should count by payday for cash flow and by period for accruals.

Which biweekly schedule has 27 paydays in 2027?

A biweekly payroll with Friday paydays can only follow one of two cycles in 2027. If the first payday is Friday, January 1, there are 27 paydays and the three-payday months are January, July, December. If it is Friday, January 8, there are 26 paydays and the three-payday months are April and October. January 1 is a federal holiday, so payroll providers commonly move a payday that falls on it to the previous business day; ask yours which date applies.

What are the semi-monthly paydays in 2027?

Semi-monthly payroll pays twice a month, commonly on the 15th and the last day, for 24 paydays. When one of those days falls on a weekend, many employers pay on the previous Friday instead, but the rule is the employer’s own. The table shows each date, its weekday, and the Friday it would move to.

What does a 27-payday year mean for pay?

Hourly workers simply get an extra paycheck. For salaried workers it depends on how the employer sets the paycheck. A $78,000 salary paid in 26 installments is $3,000.00 a paycheck; if the employer spreads it over 27 paydays in a year that has them, each paycheck is $2,888.89. Many employers keep the 26-pay amount and pay the extra check as an extra week of pay, or divide the salary by the number of paydays, so the pay policy and the employment agreement decide which applies.

Payroll teams in a 27-payday year also check benefit deductions, which are often set as 26 a year and may be taken or skipped on the extra payday, and the Social Security wage base and 401(k) limits, which run on calendar-year totals.

How many working days are there between now and June 1, 2027?

From Sunday, November 1, 2026 through Tuesday, June 1, 2027, counting both ends, there are 145 working days on a Monday to Friday week with the federal holidays off. That is 213 calendar days, 61 weekend days and 7 federal holidays: Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas in 2026, and New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Washington’s Birthday and Memorial Day in 2027. Common 2027 payroll calendar mistakes

Most mistakes come from using last year’s numbers or from mixing up pay periods with paydays.

  • Assuming 26 biweekly paydays when the first payday is January 1, 2027.
  • Forgetting that a Friday weekly payroll has 53 paydays in 2027.
  • Counting 11 federal holidays and missing the observed December 31, 2027.
  • Using 260 weekdays; 2027 has 261.
  • Moving a weekend payday forward instead of back, when the employer’s policy says back.
  • Treating a pay-period end date as the payday.

Every count on this page is calculated, not typed: days, weekdays, holidays and paydays come from the same calendar code the site's working days calculator uses, and the totals are checked against it for the whole year and each month. The federal holiday dates are from the OPM schedule. The count of 249 working days treats all 12 observed federal days as days off, so it describes a federal-calendar year. A business that works some of those days, or observes others, will count differently.
