How do you calculate 9 months from today?
9 months is a calendar span: the month moves forward 9 and the day stays, or becomes the last day of a shorter month. The calculator adds 9 months to the start date (today unless you change it), or subtracts it in “before” mode, using plain Gregorian calendar dates with no time zone. Working days are weekdays that are not US federal holidays, counted after the start date up to and including the end date. Federal holidays use the observed date, so a Saturday holiday is observed on Friday and a Sunday holiday on Monday. If the result falls on a weekend or a federal holiday, the next working day is shown too. Employer, state and bank holidays are not included.
For example, 9 months after Tuesday, August 31, 2027: Moving the month forward 9 keeps the day number, which gives Wednesday, May 31, 2028, 274 days later. Of the 274 days after the start, 196 are weekdays and 9 of those weekdays are federal holidays, which leaves 187 working days. The dates are made up for the example; yours start from today or from the date you enter.
Who should use the 9 months from today calculator
- Renters and landlords with a nine-month lease
- Teachers, students and schools counting a school year
- Anyone with a nine-month goal or review
Who should not use this
- Anyone who needs a legal deadline, since courts and contracts have their own counting rules
- Anyone who needs a state, employer or bank holiday list; only US federal holidays are built in
- Anyone who needs clock times or time zones
Limitations
- Dates are plain calendar days with no time zone, and the start date is not counted as day 1.
- Working days skip Saturdays, Sundays and US federal holidays only; add your own holidays with the working days calculator.
- A contract, notice or court rule may count days differently; check the wording that applies to you.
- Results are calendar arithmetic, not legal advice.
- Nothing is uploaded or stored on a server. Clearing your browser data also removes the saved profile.
What is 9 months from today?
Nine months is a calendar span of about 273 to 276 days. It is the length of a school year, a common lease term and the figure people use, loosely, for a full pregnancy.
For example, 9 months after Tuesday, August 31, 2027 is Wednesday, May 31, 2028. That is 274 days, or 39 weeks and 1 day. Skipping Saturdays, Sundays and federal holidays, the span holds 187 working days. Federal holidays inside it: Labor Day (Sep 6, 2027); Columbus Day (Oct 11, 2027); Veterans Day (Nov 11, 2027); Thanksgiving Day (Nov 25, 2027); Christmas Day (observed) (Dec 24, 2027); New Year's Day (observed) (Dec 31, 2027); Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Jan 17, 2028); Washington's Birthday (Feb 21, 2028); Memorial Day (May 29, 2028). The date is a working day.
Weeks from date calculatorWeeks between two dates, or a repeating date every few weeks. How do you count 9 months from a date?
- Write down the start date. Today is day 0, so tomorrow is day 1.
- Move the month number forward by 9 and keep the day; if that month is shorter, use its last day.
- Check the weekday. The weekday changes by a different amount each time, because months have 28 to 31 days. From Tuesday, August 31, 2027, 9 months after is a Wednesday.
- If the date falls on a weekend or a holiday, decide whether your deadline moves to the next working day. The calculator shows both dates.

How many working days are in 9 months?
It depends on where the span starts. 9 months always holds the same calendar days, but the number of weekdays and federal holidays inside changes. The table counts working days, meaning weekdays that are not federal holidays, for four example start dates in 2027. The start day is not counted.
| Start date | End date | Weekday | Working days | Federal holidays inside |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jan 4, 2027 | Oct 4, 2027 | Monday | 189 | 6 |
| Apr 5, 2027 | Jan 5, 2028 | Wednesday | 188 | 9 |
| Jul 6, 2027 | Apr 6, 2028 | Thursday | 189 | 8 |
| Oct 4, 2027 | Jul 4, 2028 | Tuesday | 186 | 10 |
Federal holidays use the observed date: a holiday on a Saturday is observed on the Friday before, and one on a Sunday on the Monday after. Private employers and states set their own holidays, so treat the count as a guide and adjust for your own calendar.
What is 9 months used for?

How many paydays fall in 9 months?
A span of 274 days holds 39 or 40 weekly paydays and 19 or 20 biweekly paydays, depending on which weekday and week your pay cycle falls on. For semi-monthly pay (the 15th and the last day) expect about 18 paydays. Because the span is not a whole number of pay periods, one start date can have one payday more than another.

Yes. After you calculate, “Add to calendar” downloads an all-day .ics event that opens in Google Calendar, Apple Calendar and Outlook. “Copy link” saves your start date and number in the address, and “Print” gives a clean one-page sheet with the table. Nothing you enter leaves your device.
